Meet Derek.
"The Handyman Neighbor of West Texas."
From the road to the neighborhood.
Derek spent years behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler, hauling loads across the highways of West Texas. It wasn't glamorous work, but it was honest, and he was good at it. Then came the accident, a serious incident that left him unable to drive commercially. Just like that, the career he'd built his life around was gone.
With bills to pay and no plan B, Derek did what he always does: he found a way. He grabbed a mower, a weedeater, and a push broom and started knocking on doors. Lawn care wasn't his dream. It was his lifeline. He worked hard and he showed up, same as always.
But something unexpected happened out on those jobs. Derek started noticing things. An elderly woman who hadn't been able to get her yard under control in months. A single mom juggling three kids and two jobs who just didn't have the time or the money. A veteran living alone whose yard had gotten completely away from him. These weren't people who didn't care. They were people who needed help and had no one to call.
That's when Derek's Community Rescue was born. In 2021, Derek stopped just mowing lawns for pay and started showing up for the people who couldn't afford it, or couldn't do it themselves. No charge. No strings. Just a man, his mower, and a camera to share it all with the world.
Based in West Texas, Derek is the father of two daughters. Everything he builds, the channel, the mission, the community, he's building with them in mind. Something worth leaving behind. Something they can be proud of. Because here in West Texas, we show up for each other. And when Derek sees something that needs fixing, you already know what he's going to say:
"Now We Can't Have That Here."
The Code He Works By.
Show Up
Showing up is half the battle. Too many people walk past the need right in front of them. Derek doesn't. If you call for help, he comes.
Do the Work
No shortcuts. No half-measures. When Derek takes on a rescue, he goes until it's done right. Every single time, no matter how long it takes.
Leave It Better
The goal is never just a clean yard. The goal is a neighbor who stands a little taller when they look out the window. Leave it better than you found it.
Be Part of the Mission.
Know someone who needs a rescue? Nominate them. Want to watch the work? Derek's on YouTube every week. Want to help fund it? Every bit makes a difference.
